Warning Message:southwestern Adair...Adams and northwestern Taylor counties until 830
am CDT...
At 600 am CDT...National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated 
thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall across the warned area with 
rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches per hour through the next couple 
hours.   
Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to
occur. Some locations that will experience flooding 
include...Corning...Griswold and Lenox. 
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed...act quickly. Do not
enter the water. Turn around and move up to higher ground. Do not
stay in areas subject to flooding when water begins rising.

* portions of central Iowa...south central Iowa...southeast 
 Iowa...southwest Iowa and west central Iowa...including the 
 following areas...in central Iowa...Boone...Dallas...Jasper...
 Marshall...Polk...Poweshiek...story and Tama. In south central 
 Iowa...Appanoose...Clarke...Decatur...Lucas...Madison...
 Mahaska...Marion...Monroe...Ringgold...Union...Warren and 
 Wayne. In southeast Iowa...Davis and Wapello. In southwest 
 Iowa...Adair...Adams...Cass and Taylor. In west central Iowa...
 Audubon and Guthrie.
* Until 1 PM CDT this afternoon
* thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will continue over southern
  Iowa through this morning. A few storms have produced nearly 3
  inches in one hour in Lamoni and into southern Ringgold County.
  Additional storms will likely produce similar rainfall rates.
  Some significant flash flooding is expected over southern
  portions of the watch area. Washed out roadways are expected.
  Driving across water covered roads is strongly not advised.
  Small creeks and local rivers likely will have significant
  flooding today.
* Flash flooding is likely over areas that receive two to three 
 inches of rain in three hours or less and local rivers will 
 also be on the rise with the potential for some rises in river 
 levels and river flooding over the next several days as well.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.
You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
